Exhibition of the diploma project in the Architect’s Chamber of Berlin (1996)
The Fashion Center articulates itself in architecture and organisation as a building open to the city. Its different uses – commerce and education – are united by a bracket of public institutions. In terms of urban design, the particular location as interface between different urban structures (the Friedrichstadt city extension grid and the old town ring structure) is answered by the rising of two volumes standing in its directions, supplying the building with adequate expression by its solitary landmarks. At night, the fashion shows are projected on a large translucent media screen clutched in front of the facade, resembling a piece of fabric.
